Information & Character Marqués de Velilla is a wine that, while maintaining its freshness and youthful expression, offers subtle notes of wood. It also has a long, very interesting structure. The grape variety is 100% Tempranillo harvested in early October, the wine has been aged in French and American oak barrels for 6 months followed by a further 6 months in bottle, allowing it to reach its optimal development. Great aromatic intensity; red fruit (strawberries) well integrated with spicy and mineral notes from the oak barrels. Round and fine tannins. A fresh wine with the right acidity.

Production The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged only in oak barrels.

Soil Alluvial with sand and clay to lime.

Suitable for Perfect charcuterie, meat dishes of lamb, pork and poultry.

About the Producer

Marqués de Velilla was founded in 1985 by the Segovian Hernández de Mercado family and is today among the most respected wineries in the Ribera del Duero appellation. In 1996 it was established in its current, permanent location in the small village of La Horra, where in 1989 the family had purchased one of the most spectacular properties in the region, Monte Villalobón. The estate covers an area of 800 hectares, vines had been grown on the land for many years and the previous owner was the religious community of La Sagrada Familia. Since 1998, Marqués de Velilla has produced wine exclusively from its own grapes, thanks to its 150 hectares of vineyard.
