Information & Character Fruity, slightly reserved aroma with hints of blackcurrant, blueberry, plum, herbs, oak and coffee. Medium-bodied, finely fruity taste with a lively attack, complex mid-section with pronounced tannin structure, good, balanced acidity, excellent length and fruity, promising finish. Can be aged for 10-15 years, 20,000 bottles produced. Pronounced aroma of fresh blackcurrant, crushed black berries and kirsch with hints of cedar. Medium-bodied, the taste has a good core of clean, expressive black fruits, framed by firm, robust tannins and lots of freshness, which finishes elegantly.

Production The must fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks and then in French oak barrels for 12 months.

About the Producer

In January 2008, Château Poujeaux was purchased by the Cuvelier family (who were already the proud owners of Clos Fourtet, a Premier Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Emilion). This marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Poujeaux. Philippe Cuvelier and his son, Matthieu, asked Stéphane Derenoncourt to advise them, while retaining the existing winemaking team. This is led by Christophe Labenne, grandson of the previous owners. While maintaining the generous, yet delicate style of the wine, the new direction is towards better focus to bring Poujeaux to its ultimate potential. The vines grow in a single block on a large terroir in the heart of the Médoc: a beautiful gravel hill in Grand-Poujeaux.
