Information & Character Meruzzano MGA in Treiso, one of the highest areas in Barbaresco. Meruzzano is fresh and fruity even when young, with fine, elegant tannins. Well-balanced style, only released three years after the vintage, which gives some maturity right from the start. An elegant and relatively accessible Barbaresco, where Meruzzano gives more structure, depth and length but without being as powerful as a really heavy Barbaresco. The wine has a great aroma with hints of cherry, red fruit such as strawberry, pepper and violet. Well-balanced dry wine, on the palate we find red berries, blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry and violet with firm, well-structured tannins.

Production Maceration on the skins, temperature-controlled fermentation, malolactic fermentation. After vinification, the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 10–15 months, of which approximately 20 percent are new barrels, followed by 4–6 months in bottle before release.

Soil Lime and clay-rich soil and to some extent sand.

Goes with: Goes perfectly with braised and grilled meat, poultry and game, as well as with cheese platters.

About the Producer

Orlando Abrigo is a family-owned quality producer in Treiso, in the middle of the Langhe area just outside Alba and in the heart of Barbaresco. The family has worked with wine for generations, and Giovanni Abrigo runs the business today. Above all, Barbaresco – their most important wines come from the Rongalio, Meruzzano and Montersino locations, among others. They have around 20 hectares of vineyards, with Nebbiolo at the center but also Barbera, Dolcetto and white grapes. The winery was built in 2013 and is modernly integrated into the landscape, with a focus on both tradition and gentle winemaking.
