Information & Character Grapes from the oldest part of the Meruzzano cru, which is the basis for Rongalio. The wine is only made in better vintages. Aging: about 2 years in barrels, which gives more depth and developed tones. Powerful but elegant, with forest berries, balsamic tones, cloves, tobacco and toasted barrel tones. The tannins are clear and the wine has good acidity. 2019 is also a very interesting vintage for Nebbiolo, and Rongalio is a wine that should be aerated properly and drunk now rather than treated as a completely young wine. Preferably 1–2 hours in a decanter. Intense and complex, tones of violet, withered rose, ripe red fruits, spices, licorice and tar. Structured, warm, elegant but powerful tannins, long aftertaste with balsamic and spicy undertones.

Production Maceration on the skins for 20-25 days, temperature-controlled fermentation, malolactic fermentation. After vinification, the wine is aged for at least 50 months.

Soil Lime and clay-rich soil and to some extent sand.

Goes with: Goes perfectly with braised and grilled meat, poultry and game, as well as with cheese platters.

About the Producer

Orlando Abrigo is a family-owned quality producer in Treiso, in the middle of the Langhe area just outside Alba and in the heart of Barbaresco. The family has worked with wine for generations, and Giovanni Abrigo runs the business today. Above all, Barbaresco – their most important wines come from the Rongalio, Meruzzano and Montersino locations, among others. They have around 20 hectares of vineyards, with Nebbiolo at the center but also Barbera, Dolcetto and white grapes. The winery was built in 2013 and is modernly integrated into the landscape, with a focus on both tradition and gentle winemaking.
