Information & Character It was 1993 and Gaetano's mindset did not match the Piacenza wine model, sparkling and ready to drink. From there came the turning point. The vintage was very generous in terms of quality and on the advice of a friend and his Piedmontese winemaker he decided to try refining a small amount of Barbera in a wooden barrel. Barbera and not Gutturnio because the quantity was limited and the small barrel is definitely more suitable for a vine with low tannin like Barbera. The barrel was a Gamba, 3.5 hectoliters of French oak from Allier. Two years of aging and then bottled. Intense aroma of cherry liqueur with a hint of oak and dried fruit. Juicy, almost fresh, full-bodied cherry fruit on the palate, but the acidity gives great excitement. The result was a complex, structured and fresh wine.
Production Spontaneous fermentation with domestic yeasts in fiberglass tanks and then aged for 24 months in oak barrels and then 12 months in bottle.
Soil Lime and clay-rich soil and to some extent sand.
Suitable for Perfectly aged cheese and grilled food.
About the Producer
The Solenghi winery was born in 1983 from Gaetano's idea. Bored with office life, he decided to dedicate himself to working on a small vineyard, only expanded to one hectare, owned by his aunt Maria Teresa. Gaetano began working under the guidance of Celsino, an old farmer born in 1920 who previously managed the vineyard. From him, Gaetano learned the farming skills that the vineyards still use today. Respect for nature, which today means environmental sustainability Gaetano courageously rejected the dominant economic model based on maximum yield and gave up tillage, fertilization and the use of chemistry.
