Information & Character The basis of the powerful Torre d'Orti Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore from Veneto are grapes from the Corvina and Rondinella varieties. The grapes grow under optimal conditions in Veneto. Here the vines dig their roots deep into soils of clay, limestone and marl. Torre d'Orti Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore is an old world wine through and through, because this Italian breathes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underlines the success of old world wines. Hand harvested, then to the press house and vinification with maturation in oak barrels. Fine fruitiness and a mild aroma of spices and dark berries. Complex flavors and spiciness from the dried grapes in balance with a fine fruitiness from the fresh grapes and dark berries.

Production Made according to the Ripasso method when the "Valpolicella" is allowed to rest briefly on the remains from the Amarone production. Only 24-48 hours for this Ripasso to prevent a second fermentation which is otherwise customary when making Ripasso. So this Ripasso is different, 40% of the grapes in the wine have also been dried shortly before the first vinification to make the wine more complex and with a more elegant character.

Soil Lime, silt and clay soil.

Goes with Perfect with pasta, red meat such as smoked and grilled, spicy dishes and cheeses.

About the Producer

Torre d'Orti is located in Marcellise, in the Valpolicella area, province of Verona. The estate, in the Valpolicella area, is named after the old watchtower of the Montorio castle. The terraces where the farmers used to grow olives, cereals and vines can still be seen. The Piona family recently bought this land and planted vineyards with the native grape varieties of Valpolicella. The soil here is the typical red earth of the area mixed with white chalk. This type of soil, combined with the altitude, gives the wines great elegance and makes them suitable for long aging. As in the other two estates, natural methods are followed in the vineyards, the grape yield is kept low and only the best bunches are vinified.
