Information & Character Wine from the prestigious Bolgheri wine region – an area world-famous for its so-called “Super Tuscan” wines. The wine is made from 100% Merlot and reflects both the soft structure of the grape and the area’s sunny coastal climate. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified gently, with fermentation in cement tanks and long aging – first in French oak barrels for about 18 months and then additional time in bottle before release. In the glass, Ferrugo appears with a deep ruby red color and a complex aroma profile. The aroma offers a complexity of aromas and elegance reminiscent of notes of red fruits, spices and sweet tobacco. Full-bodied and elegant fruit together with a spicy and dark chocolate aftertaste. The acidity is perfectly integrated with the structure, making the wine an exceptional wine.

Production 25-30 days of fermentation then second fermentation in 225 liter oak barrels for 18 months and additional time in bottle.

Soil Limestone, schist, clay and volcanic soil.

About the Producer

Villanoviana was born from the passion for good wine and the love for this area of Tuscany, from our desire to return to the roots of our culture and cultivate our land in an environmentally responsible way. That is why we use only natural methods in the vineyard, such as the Bokashi method, which is unique here in Bolgheri. The proximity to the sea and the perfect sun exposure give the wines a mineral character and a fresh acidity that fully respects the unique characteristics of our terroir. Marco and Barbara are Tuscan by adoption and with Emilian roots and also married.
