Information & Character Rioja is undoubtedly Spain's most famous wine region and has undergone a significant improvement in quality in recent years with small wine producers challenging the large industrial wineries. The location on rolling hills on the Ebro River, between two mountain ranges, creates a climate that is optimal for winegrowing, as the area is protected both from chilly winds from the north and from high summer heat from the south. Classic red Rioja wines are made from the Tempranillo grape, which produces wines with a spicy character, strong fruit flavor and low acidity. In the nose it offers an aromatic palette of fresh fruit, fine spices, cocoa and subtle roasted notes that provide depth without dominating. On the palate it is balanced, with smooth, well-integrated tannins, refreshing acidity and a persistent finish. Aged for 12 months in oak barrels.

Production The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged only in oak barrels for 12 months.

About the Producer

The foundation of Bodegas Corral, Don Jacobo's hometown, over a hundred years ago was due to the foresight of Saturnino Daroca, a born and raised Riojan grower and winemaker, who began planting his first vineyards in Sojuela, a small village near Navarrete. His daughter married Martin Corral who contributed his name and family crest to the winery, a reminder of his family nature to this day. In the fifties with the involvement of the third generation of the family, Gregorio and Florencio Corral, the winery expanded to new markets. It was the beginning of a remarkable increase in the company's commercial activity. The new cellars in Navarrete were built in 1974. The vineyard is located in Altos de Corral, a hill in the municipality of Navarrete (Rioja Alta), at an altitude of 600 m. Where they grow only Tempranillo on this small 10 hectare vineyard, the variety of the famous Rioja DO. Their soils are clayey and chalky in the northern edge with alluvial in the south, the surface has iron-rich red soil and large stones. The dominant climatic influence is the continental Mediterranean.
