Information & Character Padró & Co. Rojo Clásico is a tribute to vermouth that was originally sold from the wine cellar or enjoyed religiously every Sunday at noon. The base wine is made from Macabeo and Xarel·lo grapes from the Padró family's own vines. After the first winter, they add their special red vermouth herbal formula to make a base coupage which is then left to rest and develop in barrels for between nine and twelve months. These barrels originally contained sherry, after which they were used for a time to transport wine and they have now adapted them for vermouth storage. Aromas of sweet spices, cinnamon and cloves as well as notes of candied fruit. A creamy and fresh taste followed by memories of slightly bitter herbs from the Mediterranean. Vermouth made from a unique infusion of aromatic herbs and aging in barrels before bottling.
Suitable for: Suitable as an appetizer or an excellent choice for finger food.
About the Producer
The Padró family's winemaking dates back to 1886 and to the village of Bràfim (Tarragona), which at the time was a bustling agricultural hub with around 400 inhabitants. The very first sales were of wines and liqueur wines loaded onto carts in large but simple barrels and sold directly from there by the first generation of winemaking Padrós: Daniel Padró Porta (1846-1890) and his wife Rosa Valldosera. At that time they ran a fairly humble establishment with just a press and a small amount of distillery equipment to make spirits and anise liqueurs. The fifth generation, is currently in charge of the winery.
